Home is where the wins are for Crystal Palace

Loving life at Palace.

If you’re Ian Holloway then you’ll be disappointed that a 15-game unbeaten run at home hasn’t been enough to cut the 12-point gap between his Crystal Palace side and Cardiff at the top of the npower Championship. That said, the promotion-chasing Palace manager will be much happier than his side go in to Saturday’s league encounter two points above their opponents, Middlesbrough, who haven’t won a single game away from home since early December. So for an almost fully-fit Palace team, Saturday appears to be a nailed on win, doesn’t it? Well, yeah probably. Middlesbrough have topped the table this term, but has suffered a woeful run of form of late which has seen them fail to win more than two games in a row since early November. Hardly top of the table form. Experienced quality players in Scott McDonald and Jonathan Woodgate look set to miss out on this one while Palace continue to excel through Glenn Murray and Wilfried Zaha. There’s no doubting that it will be a tough match, but the form favours CRYSTAL PALACE and we have to back them at odds of 11/10.

Relegation creeping closer as Hartlepool welcome Leyton Orient

Our second pick comes down the English league in the npower League One. The main reason for it? Leyton Orient are 25 points above their Hartlepool opponents who have won just twice at home all season. Plain and simple, Hartlepool seem too god awful to take anything but a defeat from this game. The last time the sides met, Leyton Orient ran out 1-0 winners in a close encounter before Christmas. Beyond that, Hartlepool may have turned a slight corner in their attempt to get out of the relegation places under John Hughes. They’re unbeaten in their last four games, but Orient have gone better than that by losing just one of their last six. Kevin Lisbie is the man banging in the goals, yet may miss out through injury. If we see the Jamaican lining up fit for this one then it’d be difficult to look beyond an Orient win. For the form, previous of the teams and considerable gap between them in the league we have to back a LEYTON ORIENT win at odds of 7/5 with Ladbrokes.

So for the Double it’s a simple, yet risky, bet this week. With Crystal Palace we’ve selected a team who are in unbelievable form at home to beat another team who have been woeful when playing away lately. Added to that, Leyton Orient want to keep any hopes of achieving the play-offs alive by beating basement boys Hartlepool. We expect them to do that and with the odds Ladbrokes are offering we have to back the double at around 4/1.
