Friday Blog – Remember football fans, anything can happen

As the end of the season approaches, what does the future hold for your club? Will there be huge change or should things probably stay the same? Have you given up on a trophy or have you consigned yourself to relegation? As Ellie Goulding once said, anything can happen!

Would Chelsea have ever expected a European title this time last year?

By Rob Boulton

To a football supporter, every game matters as the result ultimately helps them through a working week or makes it the longest slog known to man – or alternatively makes a weekend fantastic or instantly forgettable.

A football season is a marathon, and those who end up victorious usually time their run into form perfectly, for in reality everything that’s gone before fades away. From now until May every single game matters and every point won or lost could be the difference between a summer of utter joy or eight weeks of contemplation at what went wrong.

Those at the top end of the table are looking to secure the wins to make them champions, those just behind are desperate for those coveted European places, behind them is a cluster of mediocrity and then down at the bottom are the really desperate few who are battling just to go through all this again next season!

With league games, cup games, European games and even some stupid international friendlies all having to be navigated, utilising a squad to perfection and keeping everyone happy and healthy is key as the games come thick and fast and each one becomes more and more meaningful. Around Europe many leagues are perfectly poised with a number of sides still in legitimate hope of glory, and as the final few furlongs of the season unfold it’s likely to be a ride well worth strapping yourself in for.

Chelsea supporters never dreamt they’d be European champions this time last year, Man City supporters thought they’d blown the league, Kenny Dalglish still hadn’t found a coat to fit him but still got Liverpool to the FA Cup Final and won the League Cup – and all of that is what makes this the greatest game in the world. So whatever your team, whatever your hopes, whatever your current situation, keep them in your heart and your belief strong as you never know what magical rewards could be waiting just around the corner.
