Fully fit Steelmen ready to make Stuart McCall’s stay worthwhile

Higdon is huge in more ways than one.
Our first pick of today’s Double Dunter comes in the only game of the Scottish Premier League on Sunday. Third placed Motherwell take on a St Johnstone side just three places and four points behind. Previous meeting between the sides haven’t been too kind to Steve Lomas’ side. You have to go back five games over almost two years to find the last time St Johnstone won against today’s opponents. Added to that poor record, the Saints haven’t won at Fir Park since 2009. This season, after a slump at the end of September, Stuart McCall’s side have been largely consistent hence their league position. They’ve lost only once in their last six at home and go in to today’s game with an almost fully fit squad after defenders Shaun Hutchinson and Steven Saunders returned from injury to train this week. Contrastingly, Steve Lomas is waiting on a few minor niggles before selecting his strongest available starting eleven. Two men who won’t miss the game though are Jamie Adams and Steven Anderson who look set to miss out long-term through injury. The fortunes of Motherwell will rest largely on the form of 12-goal top scorer Michael Higdon. Significantly, Well have lost only once when Michael Higdon has scored this season. Where Motherwell have goals, St Johnstone can defend and that’s proven in the Perth club having the joint second best defensive record in the league. It proves to be a fascinating encounter, but MOTHERWELL should have too much about them to beat a St Johnstone side who could be hamstrung by injury. We’ve backed them at 1/1.
Goal Rush at White Hart Lane
More goals in this one?
Our second pick comes from the English Premier League as Manchester United visit fellow high-flyers Tottenham Hotspur in the final match of the Super Sunday schedule. Sir Alex Ferguson’s United team lead the table four points above Manchester City with a game in hand. Spurs have excelled under Andre Vilas Boas this season and look like a strong candidate to take one of the Champions League places come the end of the season. History between both sides point to a United win, but that’s not what we’re concerned with. Our pick looks at BOTH TEAMS TO SCORE and we’re hoping for a repeat of the 3-2 Spurs win the last time these clubs met. At Old Trafford in September, Tottenham shocked everyone by beating a United team topping the league having won six on the bounce. The league leaders are in similarly strong form as they look to extend their unbeaten run to 10 games. Spurs are also unbeaten in six so look very strong to take the win. Frankly though, we don’t care who wins and the most important statistic to us is that both Spurs and United have the first and second worst defensive records from any teams in the top six. We, like the neutrals frothing at the mouth over this game, want goals, goals and more goals. 1/2 is a decent price for a bet which looks very likely of coming.
So for the Double it’s a simple 3/1. Motherwell have the squad, form and home advantage to make them a good bet against St Johnstone and adding both teams to score in a game between two sides very talented in attack, but struggling at the back, makes it an ever better bet. 3/1 isn’t a price for the more ambitious punters, but you’re going to treble whatever you stake and that can’t be baulked at for your Sunday betting.
Keeping the festive spirit going even longer this year, we’re offering a £10 free bet to one of our lucky readers. Just retweet, share and follow us on Twitter and Facebook to enter and the winner will be announced in the coming days. It may not be a lot, but a successful tenner bet could make those post-Christmas blues fade for a while. #GameOn
