Chelsea should be too strong for Stoke
The first of our weekend tips takes in a very important game in the English Premiership as Chelsea travel to the daunting Britannia Stadium to face Stoke. Chelsea head into this one on the back of a heavy defeat to Swansea in the first leg of the Capital One Cup semi-final. They’ll be eager to bounce back with Demba Ba coming back into the team. Ba’s introduction on Wednesday night sparked some life into a despondent Chelsea side and with Frank Lampard also set to make his way back into the starting eleven, having been in great form the past few weeks, we believe they’ll be fired up come kick-off. Stoke, on the other hand, have no fresh injury concerns and go into this one full of confidence. With a great record at home this season, Tony Pullis will, as always, have his team organised and aggressive. Chelsea really needs the win. All had been going well for Rafa Benitez, but as is customary at the soap opera set of Stamford Bridge, the pressure has piled back on following the defeat to Swansea. Considering the attacking power at Rafa’s disposal, Mata, Ba, Hazard et al will be too strong for Stoke. It’s a risk, but for us it’s CHELSEA for the win at Evens.
Will Mowbray’s Boro give Zola a headache?
Our next shout is an interesting one. Middlesbrough welcome Watford to the Riverside Stadium with Gianfranco Zola’s Watford having been in decent form over the last few months, currently just within the play off places. Defeat last week set them back slightly, after their convincing win away to Brighton at Christmas had pundits tipping them for promotion. This weekend they take on Tony Mowbray’s Boro, who also find themselves riding high in the Championship in 4th place. The Riverside is always a tough place to go to and it will be tall order for Zola’s men. Previous form has shown that Middlesbrough are the better side and at their last meeting this season they won away to Watford. Boro are strong at home, having won the last five on the trot, and will be confident they can add to this tomorrow. At Evens, we are adding a MIDDLESBROUGH victory to our talking treble tomorrow.
Will Gayfield welcome the boys from Alloa?
The final game in our treble moves to more picturesque surroundings in Scotland as Arbroath face Alloa at Gayfield. Alloa have had a great season, currently sitting second in the league behind Queen of the South. Paul Hartley has been commenting on how strong his team
have looked so far, but had a disappointing result last week at Brechin. Sitting ten points ahead of their opponents on Saturday, knowing a win will close the gap on the league leaders Queens, it looks a tall order for Arbroath who have yet to really hit top form. Sitting in 5th place and having suffered a hammering last week at Queen of the South, their play-off hopes look dashed. Both teams will be desperate for the win, but on recent form we fancy an ALLOA win at generous odds of 11/8.
So for the Treble It’s a decent 9.5/1. Chelsea will face a spirited Stoke, but will prove too strong at the Britannia. Zola’s Watford show flashes of brilliance, but Mowbray’s Middlesbrough will make life tough for them and should run out victors. Alloa have had a great season so far and look set to continue that form against a downbeat Arbroath. With two away wins, it’s always a risk, but do you have the Baws for it? #GameOn!
