Home comforts for Celtic.
Both Hooper and Commons will be pivotal for Celtic tonight.
Celtic make their return to the Champions League after a four-year absence, entertaining Benfica at fortress Celtic Park. Benfica are considerably weaker than last season after the loss of Axel Witsel and Javi Garcia, their two top men. Still, they can call on Oscar Cordozo and Pablo Aimar so shouldn’t be written off. They are undefeated in the league so far and travel to Glasgow looking for their first win here in Europe. In 2006, Celtic defeated Benfica 3-0 and the following year 1-0, both at home. Celtic are strong at home backed by their vociferous home support and could definitely sneak it here. Celtic can certainly get at a much weaker Benfica defence so expect some goals and hopefully they go Celtic’s way. At odds of 13/5, a massive risk, we are going with CELTIC tonight.
Braga rights in Portugal?
Braga will be very hard to beat at home!
Braga host CFR Cluj in what should be a keenly contested affair in the first round of matches in the Champions League. Both teams will be in confident mood and simply getting to the group stages is a huge bonus for the clubs. Cluj have started their domestic season poorly, drawing four and losing once in eight games. Similarly, Braga have had an inconsistent start to their season, sitting mid table after three games. It is obviously early days but with the win against Udinese in the qualifying rounds, Braga will go into this one in confident mood. They have a full squad to choose from and if goal scoring machine Modou Sougou is on fire we can see it going Braga’s way. At odds of 1/2 we are going for a home win for BRAGA.
Wednesday Win in Sheffield!
Gary Madine could fire Sheffield Wednesday to a win tonight.
This will be an entertaining match in the npower Championship as two of the promoted clubs take each other on for the first time this season. The last time these sides met Sheffield Wednesday ran out 2-0 winners at Galpharm Stadium and, chasing their seventh successive home league win, they should do the same tonight. Huddersfield sit 10th, just one point above tonight’s opponents, and have a decent start to the season. However, losing Jordan Rhodes was a big blow for Simon Grayson and he will have to find goals from elsewhere if they are to have any real impact on the league this season. Sheffield Wednesday, on the other hand, have retained the majority of their squad and added some quality in Everton youngster, Ross Barkley, and QPR striker, Jay Bothroyd. SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY look to be in the ascendancy and at odds of 1/1 we have to back them as the final pick in tonight’s Talking Treble!
Celtic are the biggest gamble given their recent results domestically and the strength of the Benfica team. However, the Portuguese giants are weakened by their summer departures and will find it tough, like any team this season, visiting Parkhead on big European nights. A bit of home support helps our decision too. Sporting Braga have emerged as a real force in Portuguese football in recent years and have managed to transmit that form on to the European stage. Like any Champions League game it’s difficult to call, but given Cluj’s recent form and European record we can’t see anything but a home win. Finishing with Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield – we can’t see past a home victory. Both sides are evenly matched, but the home advantage should tell and ensure a win for Phil Jones’ team.
